Footsteps of a Thief

It was a bright night - not the sort of night an inexperienced Thief would go looking for trouble, but then again, Garrett was no ordinary Thief.  The moon hung full and round in the sky, its bright light casting dark shadows in the streets of the city.  An inexperienced Thief would have preferred a dark, moonless night to plunder the city, but Garrett knew that a night like this was perfect for his line of work.  While the shadows were darker, the streets were brighter, and this meant that the night-vision of the city's populace (and the City Watch in particular) was lessened, providing him with more cover.  Of course, where the were no shadows for him to hide in, the risk of him being seen was far greater, but he was a Master Thief, after all.

From his vantage point, Garrett looked down at the street below him. Grey cobbles lined the ground and sheer walls leaned in to almost touch each other at the eaves.  Looking left, then right, Garrett examined the shadows.  A movement caught his eye, and he hunkered down low on top of the wall he was perched on.  He breathed out a sigh of relief as a rat scuttled into view, looked around, then began weaving its way around the cobbles, searching for food. Satisfied, Garrett lowered himself down the wall, onto the cobbles, and melted away into the shadows.
Just a place-holder, really. I mean to carry on working on this one.
